What to Expect for your Alterations
April 20th, 2011
Welcome to our seamstress station. Here Siobhan will let you know what is expected of your bridal alterations.
“Choosing your dream dress is like meeting a person for the first time. It’s exciting and sometimes a bit overwhelming. The fitting process is more like getting to know someone and finding out how you fit together.” -Siobhan
The Fitting Process
You’ve chosen the perfect gown, the wedding is only a couple of months away and it’s time to start your fittings. The White Gown schedules you for three fittings so that you are guaranteed to look your best on the big day. At the first fitting, you must bring the shoes that you’ll be wearing for the wedding. This allows the seamstress to pin an accurate hem length which can be checked at the second fitting and perfected by the third.
Many gowns have 3-6 layers of skirts and it’s a big job to get each one just right. During this fitting the seamstress will also be pinning the gown so that it can be tweaked to fit your contours. Most brides feel like they need a strapless bra or some kind of foundation for support. You can bring this to your fitting if you like, but our seamstress’ feel that these garments tend to interfere with the gowns. All of our gowns have boning built into them which combined with the fitting the seamstress does will provide ample support for your body. If you want some additional lift or padding, cups can be sewn into the gown.
By the second fitting, most of the work has been done, and you will see how the dress will fit in the end. This is the seamstress’ opportunity to see if the original pinning was accurate and if there are any further adjustments needed. The skirt is hemmed so you will be able to comfortably walk and put the bustle up. The final fitting is scheduled within the two weeks before your wedding date. Once you’ve tried it on for the last time and everything is approved, we steam out the gown and pack it up for you to take home.
If you have any questions please feel free to post them on our blog.

Spring into Summer!
April 7th, 2011
Though it may not seem like it here in New York, Spring is upon us! We want to share with you some fun, Spring-y ideas to reinvigorate and inspire your wedding planning this season.

What better way to celebrate Spring than to shorten your skirt a bit? We just about fell out of our seats after stumbling upon this vintage Dior beauty above, left (image via dress design décor). The detail, color and shape all strike a delicate balance between flirty and vintage grace.
If you can’t seem to find the original Dior, we have the perfect solution at The White Gown! We happen to love Blue by Enzoani’s Danbury wedding gown pictured above, right (image via Blue by Enzoani). Tea length dresses are a great way to do something a little less conventional without sacrificing elegance.

What says Spring better than flowers? Beautiful buds are showing up at weddings in places other than the bouquets this year. Take a cue from the images above and play with floral patterns and rosettes for your bridesmaids! Clockwise from top, left: custom floral bridesmaid dresses (image via Our Labor of Love); chiffon rosette dress available at The White Gown from Amsale; and delicate floral patterned bridesmaid dresses (image via Ruffled Blog).

Finally, for inspiration beyond wedding attire, we’ve included some fun ideas that sing Spring and will add touch of personality to your special day! Clockwise from top, left: peony (image via Style Me Pretty); peep toe floral shoes (via BHLDN); DIY pomegranate sparkling water favors (via Ruffled Blog); floral cupcake tower (via Chicago Wedding Cakes); and another great DIY project, a custom banner (via Martha Stewart Weddings).
We hope you’re inspired to think “Spring” because there’s nothing like a little sunshine and some floral patterns to brighten up the day.
