Choosing a gown is a very important part of a brides’ wedding day and here at The White Gown we understand the amount of stress that comes with the territory. We would like to offer some helpful tips on how to be the most helpful and constructive when accompanying a bride on her bridal appointment.
We all dream of what our perfect gown will look like. With that said, be sensitive to the fact that everyone has their own style and taste, it is her dress after all.
Tip#1: Let the bride speak first
Too many people speaking at once does not make a clear point. The bride already has many thoughts going on in her mind. Adding 3 more voices only makes it more confusing. It is best for only 2 people at most to accompany a bride. If there are more, it is best to speak one at a time.
Tip#2: Be Constructive
If a certain dress does not flatter her, suggest that she try a different silhouette. Saying things like: it’s “ugly” or “I don’t like it” helps neither the bride nor the consultant. Be specific, if a certain beading or ruffle doesn’t strike you as flattering let her know, but only after the bride has had a chance to express her opinion.
Tip#3: Be On time
Be on time for the bride’s appointment. The consultants work by appointments and they have a set time for each bridal party. If you are not on time and the bride is waiting for you to give your opinion then the appointment commences late. This results in the consultant not being able to accommodate the entire appointment time. This process should be enjoyable, calm, and as stress-free as possible, not rushed and pressured for time.
Tip#4: Ask Questions
Be respectful of the consultant, she is there to help the bride and her guests. Consultants have been doing this for years and they are very knowledgeable of their field, take advantage of this by asking questions.
In closing, when a bride asks you to come to her appointment it is because she values your opinion and wants you to be a part of the process. It is a great honor to be a part of such a great moment in a woman’s life! Treat the bride the way you would love to be treated if you were looking for your dream gown. Please be positive, open minded and kind.
Quick tip for the Bride:
Don’t take a brigade of people with you when you try on wedding dresses. It is too easy for your voice to get lost. If you know that you cannot make a commitment on a 1st appointment, go alone first in order to narrow down what you love. Then bring back your mom, dad, fiancé or friends to help you make the final cut. Just remember, only bring people who will be honest but have your best interest in mind and know your personal style.
